History

Marguerite’s Music started out in 1961 in downtown Jamestown, N.D. The store

originally sold records, cards and gifts and was staffed by Marguerite (yes, she’s a

real person) and her son Don, who inspired the addition of musical instruments. With

few music stores open in the Dakotas at the time, Marguerite’s became a popular stop

for traveling musicians to shop for musical instruments and sound equipment. In

1975, the move was made to Moorhead. It is now located just south of I-94 on

Eighth Street. Marguerite has now retired, but the store is still proudly run by her family.

Marguerite’s employees, most of them professional musicians themselves, have the

most up-to-date, correct information to help customers make a purchase, unlike with

catalogs, department stores or online purchases. Fully trained service technicians

for both guitars and electronics make most repairs or modifications on-site. All

instruments are inspected and adjusted before the customer makes a purchase. The

store prides itself on keeping the inventory up to date, offering a huge selection

on most major brands of guitars, amps, effects, keyboards, percussion and public

address systems (mics, speakers, etc,.), all at competitive prices. There is also a

great selection of accessories, music books, and now sheet music printed while you

wait. If Marguerite’s doesn’t have something you are looking for, they will go out

of their way to help you get it. Gift certificates are available, and layaway programs are always offered.

The store also offers lessons in guitar, bass guitar, and drums.
